Hikâyemiz

Food with a woman’s touch.

Hanımeli is the Turkish word for a dish that could only have been made by a mother’s hands. It’s also the name of a honeysuckle. Both fit.

Cooking eggs on the stove in the Hanımeli kitchen

From Anatolia to Dalston

The way it was always done.

We opened Hanımeli to cook the food we grew up eating. Not restaurant food: home food. The kind that comes from a village kitchen where the bread is baked fresh, the yoghurt is set overnight, and lunch has been on the stove since breakfast.

Everything on the menu starts from raw ingredients in our own kitchen. We don’t use preservatives, colourings or glucose syrup. We don’t buy ready-minced meat. We cook in steel pots, in the oven and on the grill, because that is how the food is meant to taste.

All our meat is halal-certified and comes from suppliers we know. We prepare it ourselves.

Our promise

Four things we won’t compromise on

  • Natural ingredients

High-quality raw materials, nothing artificial, no sweeteners or life-extenders.

  • Made by hand

Gözleme rolled to order, mantı pinched one by one, lavash from our own oven.

  • Slow cooking

Stews that simmer for hours. Traditional methods only: pots, oven, grill.

  • Halal, always

Certified halal meat, prepared in our kitchen, never bought pre-processed.
